It can get a bit disheartening in summer on the block when everything is sun-baked dry and brown, no rain, less flowers, birds... So it's good to see the positives, like the fresh green leaves of pink gum regeneration after the psyllid infestation. The eucalypts are just starting to flower, too. Back on the ground, one familiar ant - the meat ant - continues its labours no matter how hot it gets. There's a large nest in the garden, very peaceable. The same can't be said for the next one - it's a myrmecia cf. mandibularis - a species of bulldog ant and very likely to bite or sting. Am glad they're not really that big! This last one is a bit of a mystery - probably a female, I'm told, although it's unusual to see a queen above ground. Hope to get a species identification soon.

It does look very dry, but it makes watching it all spring back all that much better xx
