Subtitle - egg on face So three days ago I heard a familiar chirping emanating from the trees in front of verandah. Further investigation discovered this: Yes, that's right - while I was getting excited about the imminent arrival of babies they had already arrived. I should have known better - last year the nest was away from the food area and then the fledglings moved into there when they were big enough. This year it's the same - only a month earlier. The baby is still mostly being fed, although it does have a nibble at whatever's around it, and is already quite a competent flyer. At the moment there seems to be just one baby. So why the courtship display and bill's full of nesting material? Just read that Little Wattlebirds can raise three broods a year under the right conditions. Is that what's happening here? Well, I'm taking a few days off speculation methinks...
