There seems to be almost a sense of desperation as the honeyeaters vie for what's left of this bottlebrush. A bird chasing away others isn't feeding, so there has been some degree of tolerance, interspersed by serious disagreements. I watched them for half an hour - here is the first-born fledgling - and its father - The Red Wattlebird - one of a breeding pair I think - is now mostly unchallenged. A blue-eyed baby from the second clutch - While the New Hollands take their chances whenever they can. Below is one of the babies at full stretch. One of the parents got annoyed with it and tried to chase it off - But the LWs are pretty good at hanging on - and quite persistent. With summer nearly here they'll all be working a bit harder to find nectar around the block.
