Whenever I see this delightful bird perched and on the hunt for insects, it's the robin's stillness that makes the biggest impression. It's been found that robins and other ground-feeding insectivores rely primarily on sight and hearing to locate prey, so I think being very still must help in detecting movement. Although the robin belongs to the genus Eopsaltria, which translates as 'dawn-harper', and they are one of the first birds heard in the morning, their call is a rather monotonous piping.
